The userpref.dat file is used to store user preferences and customizations for all users, as well as some login information about the Sage user name, as well as some information from the Windows user profile. We have seen corrupt Windows profiles consistently corrupt a userpref.dat file. What we typically recommend is deleting the userpref.dat file, have it recreate a new one. Yes, it's a pain to have everybody recustomize their dashboards, etc, but if it's damaged in normal use that's the only way to avoid it. If you continue to have a corrupt userpref.dat, then very likely one of the users has a corrupt Windows user profile. Unfortunately we don't have any way to troubleshoot which one might have it, other than the fact that a user with a corrupt Windows user profile will tend to get errors in userpref.dat more often than other stations.
